After Winning The Championship, Power’s Big Baby Davis on How BIG3 And His Teammates Brought Him Back From a ‘Crazy Place’ (Video)

It was about 30 minutes after Power’s emotional 51-43 victory over 3’s Company to claim the second ever BIG3 league championship. An exuberant, boisterous Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis made his way into the press room at Barclays Center, accompanied by his coach Nancy Lieberman, and his teammates Cuttino Mobley, Corey Maggette, and Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen. As he made his way up to the dais, he spotted the popular tv personality Sway, among the assembled media members. Davis told Sway, he just won the BIG3 title and needed to be a guest on Sway’s nationally syndicated radio show. Half in jest, but with an aura of seriousness, Davis told Sway not to worry, because he has bars. It was at that moment, and with the powerful words that followed, everyone gathered realized; this title meant a little more to Davis.

The ex-NBA player and 2008 championship member of the Boston Celtics has had his share of troubles since leaving the game to pursue a career in filmmaking. He broke his ankle in his last season in the NBA with the Clippers. He was charged with felony assault back in June, and in February he was arrested at a Maryland hotel with 126 grams of marijuana and a briefcase containing $92,000 in cash. He was charged with possession and intent to distribute.

Davis attempted to make a comeback to the NBA this year and entered his name in the G League draft. No team was willing to take a chance on the power forward, but he found a home in Ice Cube’s BIG3 league. Cube heard he wanted to play again and offered Davis an opportunity which he took all the way to a championship. The way he and his teammates discussed the brotherhood and bond they have with Lieberman (head coach), they take this league and playing very seriously.

After the players and Lieberman took turns addressing the media, Davis was emotional when he talked about the “crazy” things he’s been through since leaving the NBA. He credited Cube, league commissioner Clyde Drexler, and his teammates for believing in him and in many ways saving him.

​Watching Davis play in the BIG3 this season it’s obvious he still has a lot of game left and could be a real contributor on an NBA roster. He hopes the BIG3 has given NBA teams a glimpse of what he can still do on the court. Hopefully, the realization of his love for the game demonstrates how much we want and needs basketball in his life.
