11/2/2018 After Nets OT Win Against The Pistons And Ahead of Matchup Against The Rockets, Kenny Atkinson & Caris LeVert Talk Balance (Video)Read Now
The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Detroit Pistons 120-119 in overtime on Wednesday night in Brooklyn. The Nets held leads in the early stages of each quarter, and then their collective efforts would wane, allowing the Pistons to close each quarter on a run and get back into the game. Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson admonished his players at halftime and the effort was better in spurts in the second half. During the fourth quarter, it looked as though Detroit would escape with a win on a back to back night. This was exactly the type of game the Nets would've lost last year. But Spencer Dinwiddie caught fire in the fourth and OT, and the Nets played under control and found a balance between attacking the rim and shooting threes.
If you've been paying attention to the NBA over the past few seasons a three-point revolution has taken over. Teams are shooting and making more threes than ever. The pace of play has increased and referees have been allowing players more freedom of movement. The Nets are not among the league leaders in pace or three-pointers, but Atkinson understands the value of the three ball and scoring easy points in the paint. Following the win against the Pistons, he talked about that balance.
As Atkinson states, they aren't a team that is going to shoot sixty threes a game, but the team did seem to find the right mix late in the game and in OT.
Caris LeVert said experience is key to the team finding that perfect balance and the more they play in these situations the better they will be. Easy points in the paint and threes are the hallmark of the Nets Friday night opponent, the Houston Rockets. Although the Rockets are off to a disastrous 1-5 start, they take and make an abundance of threes and the Nets will have to be ready. Houston desperately needs a win and with James Harden likely out, they'll be even more aggressive.
